Departing from Glenorchy we take the drive up into the Mt Aspiring National Park. Across the Rees and Dart rivers past some of the Lord of the rings and Hobbit film locations. At the beginning of the Routeburn valley we turn off and park up, time for a stretch and use the bathroom before crossing the bridge into native New Zealand beech forest. tall old growth forest this is your chance to see NZ Bush Robins, Mohua, Parakeets along the walk. 45minutes walking and we arrive at Lake Sylvan, a beautiful lake sorrounded by forest and glacial mountains. Afternoon tea of juice and savery muffins, perhaps a swim when its hot before heading back to the bright lights of Glenorchy.
